Golf
The Ribble Valley is a fantastic destination for golfers, with a variety of scenic courses set amongst the area's beautiful countryside. Guests can enjoy a round at Clitheroe Golf Club, a classic James Braid-designed parkland course with views across the Ribble Valley, or head to Mytton Fold Golf Club in Langho for an 18-hole course built into the hillside with spectacular valley views. Longridge Golf Club also offers an 18-hole, par 70 course overlooking the Ribble Valley and Forest of Bowland, while Wilpshire Golf Club provides a challenging 18-hole course on upland heath terrain.
There are many excellent golf courses within easy reach of our holiday cottages. Some of the closest are Stonyhurst College, Longridge, Whalley and Mytton Fold. As with most golf courses, booking is essential.
There are driving ranges at Longridge, Lee Valley Rishton and Samlesbury Hall.

Cycling

The Tolkien Trail
SThe Tolkien Trail is a scenic circular walking route through the beautiful Ribble Valley, inspired by the landscapes that are said to have influenced J.R.R. Tolkien while he was writing The Lord of the Rings. The route takes you through the countryside around Hurst Green, passing woodland, riverside paths and historic landmarks, including Stonyhurst College. It’s a lovely walk for guests looking to explore the local countryside and enjoy some of the stunning scenery that makes the Ribble Valley so special.
The Ribble Way: A Journey Along the River Ribble
Embark on an epic adventure along the Ribble Way, a 72-mile long-distance walk following the meandering path of the River Ribble from Preston to its source in North Yorkshire. Walks with Taste is a collection of self-guided circular walks that combine the beautiful countryside of the Ribble Valley with some of the area’s fantastic places to eat and drink. With routes ranging from easy strolls to more challenging hikes, there’s something to suit different abilities and interests. Each walk includes a map and directions, with destinations including traditional country pubs, inns and local eateries where you can enjoy a well-earned meal or drink after your walk.
Eco Escapes offers a chance to experience the beautiful Forest of Bowland while staying close to nature. Set within the stunning Bowland landscape, their eco-friendly escapes provide a peaceful base for exploring the surrounding countryside, with opportunities for walking, wildlife watching, cycling and simply enjoying the tranquillity of the area. It’s an ideal choice for anyone looking to slow down, reconnect with nature and experience the natural beauty of the Forest of Bowland.

Outdoor Activities
For adventure, team building and outdoor fun, Outdoor Elements offers a fantastic range of activities in a beautiful seven-acre woodland setting in Simonstone, just a short drive from the Ribble Valley. Their activities are suitable for a wide range of ages and groups, with options including archery, problem-solving challenges, shelter building, fire lighting, orienteering, climbing, Jacob’s Ladder, Leap of Faith and zip lines.
They cater for families, children’s parties, hen and stag groups, sports teams, social clubs, schools and corporate groups, with programmes tailored to suit different abilities and objectives. Outdoor Elements also offers mobile activities, including archery, problem solving, fire lighting and shelter building, which can be delivered at your chosen venue. All activities are led by experienced instructors, with a focus on safety, inclusion, teamwork and having fun outdoors.
